This week we welcome Spring with a concert featuring the famous orchestra in Leipzig known as the Gewandhaus. That word literally means “cloth house”, and in 1781 they took their name from the only place that was big enough to hold them, the meeting hall of the Leipzig cloth merchants. At over 200 years old, they are one of the oldest and best European orchestras.
