Week of April 29, 2007
LA Philharmonic
at Walt Disney Concert Hall
Paavo Järvi, conductor
André Watts, piano
Listen (hour 1)
Listen (hour 2)
Program:
Rachmaninoff: Vocalise
Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2 - André Watts, piano
Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 2
Description:
Conductor Paavo Järvi is on a kind of a mission. He hates it when critics tell audiences that when it comes to the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff – well, it’s just not something that they should like. He’s delved deeply into Rachmaninoff’s music and found that behind the dark-chocolate harmonies there's rigor, structure, and genius – all part of why this music speaks so powerfully. Not to mention those soaring tunes... Järvi brings this all together beautifully in concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
